Piece of Clay

The class is a 4 week introduction to clay. It is meant for those who have never dabbled in clay or haven’t since they were children, but have always wanted to give it a try. Students will complete several hand built pieces using slabs, such as a bowl, tray, mug or vase. Students will learn the difference between working with plastic and leatherhard clay, try several decorating techniques  and will glaze their work. Class sessions last 1 1/2 hours. All clay, glazes, and firing are included in the $100 fee.  This class is offered each month on Tuesday afternoon at 1 pm and on Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm.

Wheel Throwing

The Wheel classes are for 8 weeks and are ideal for beginners, as well as more experienced potters who want to improve their skills. Beginners will learn the basics of centering, pulling and trimming basic functional forms, such as cups, bowls and vases. Intermediate and advanced potters will continue to refine the process of making more complex forms, such as teapots and covered containers. Students will be encouraged to try additional decorative techniques and methods of altering forms. Each class session last for 3 hours, plus the opportunity for additional practice time during normal studio hours, 11 am to 5 pm, Wednesday through Saturday. The first 25 lb. bag of clay is included in the $325 fee. A nominal fee will be charged to fire completed pieces.  The classes are on either Wednesday or Thursday mornings from 9 am to 12 pm and from 7 to 10 pm.

Class dates for 2018 on Wednesday & Thursday are Jan 10th & 11th, Mar 7th & 8th, May 2nd & 3rd, Jul 11th & 12th, Sep 5th & 6th and Nov 7th & 8th (6 weeks only for $250).

Hand Building

Endless possibilities to create! Learn the basic skills and processes to hand build your masterpieces out of clay.  The class sessions run for 8 weeks and last 3 hours with students given the opportunity for additional practice time during normal studio hours, Wednesday through Saturday 11 am – 5 pm.  The classes are appropriate for beginners and more experienced students. Students will learn several construction and decorating methods.  Work with the slab roller, extruder, molds, stamps, slips, stains, glazes and more to develop the fundamental skills of creating functional or sculptural forms. Returning students will continue to refine the process as they build more complex forms.  Class fee of $325, which includes one 25 lb. bag of clay.  Students provide their own tools. A nominal fee will be charged to fire pieces. Minimum high school age. No maximum age! This class is offered Mondays from 9 am to noon and from 7 to 10 pm.

Independent Study

This option is designed for more advanced potters who want to work independently on developing their skills and voice. The students will have access to all studio equipment and a dedicated shelf.  All clay must be purchased through the Village Potters. A nominal fee will be charged to fire pieces. With an initial 3 month agreement, Independent Study students will be provided with a studio key for unlimited access.  Cost: $150 per month.

Tween Clay Class

Students from 5th through 8th grade will enjoy learning a number of hand building, decorating and glazing techniques. A maximum of 8 students allows for plenty of personal attention from the instructor, Ryan Bothwell, a professional art teacher. The class runs on Fridays from 3:45 to 5:15 pm. The tuition for the 8 week sessions is $180 and for the two 6 week sessions is $135 and covers all clay, glazes and firing.

Class dates for 2018 are Jan 12th, Mar 9th, May 4th (6 weeks), Sep 7th and Nov 2nd (6 weeks).

Private Parties

Birthday parties, Ladies Night Out, showers, team building…Have your event at the Village Potters.  Have fun and socialize while we guide you through creating a unique piece of pottery. We provide everything needed to make your memento. Refreshments can be coordinated for an additional cost or you can bring your own treats. Cost: $25 per person, minimum 3 people.
